Janet is a lover of nature, chemistry, mermaids, glitter, makeup and all things PINK (of course)! As a mom of two and a qualified beautician, she knows first-hand about the challenges of finding quality, safe and wholesome products that the whole family can enjoy. Janet started by mixing her own formulations and creating soaps at home, but seven years later, PINK Cosmetics is booming – with a wonderful range of locally made, wholesome skincare products that are 100% Vegan.

I’ve personally tried many of Janet’s creations over the years – from beautiful facial serums and handmade soaps to a gorgeous hair conditioning mask that is super gentle yet refreshing on your hair. Everything always smells amazing and is beautifully packaged – so much love goes into every detail. And yet, the thing I love most of all is experiencing Janet’s passion for her products and how the range continues to evolve and grow over the years. She’s not one to sit still and is always thinking of new and exciting products to add to the business.
We chatted to Janet about the leap she took to start a business in this industry and naturally, she also had some great skincare tips to share with us.
What made you take the leap to start your own business in skincare?
In 2010, while investigating the skincare products used by my family, I was horrified to discover the dangers of so many ingredients lurking in vanity aisles. Many skincare items contained controversial preservatives like parabens, strong sulphates, and petrol derivatives (parafinium). I felt like someone needed to contend with the unfulfilled promises and unethical behaviour of these countless products on the market. So, armed with passion and purpose, backed by my beauty therapist degree, I began to educate myself and develop my very own formulations and an ethical skincare range. My aim was to create a wholesome and beautiful range of products that were not only vegan and non-toxic, but also safe for use by the whole family.

What is at the heart of PINK Cosmetics?
Each product is made in small batches, and draws inspiration from nature as the ultimate source of many beneficial healing properties. The name itself sums up the brand. PINK: Perfectly Inspired by Nature’s Knowledge.
From artisan soaps, masks, scrubs and home scents, to bath, hair, body, our facial products, and our new mineral make-up , the range of Pink Cosmetics is ever evolving.
Being able to create a beautiful product that not only looks and smells amazing but is also good for your skin and not damaging to the environment fills me with happiness. I hope that our products will bring you as much joy as they bring me.
What did you do before you started this business?
I was an events co-ordinator and a personal assistant.
What is the one thing that you’re most passionate about when it comes to your business?
My clients. Helping them with their skin issues.
What motivates you to keep going?
I am driven by the desire to inspire others that hard work, passion and dedication can make anything happen. Believe in yourself and your dreams, with all your heart and work towards them everyday! No matter who you are, dream big and forge your own path. Who knows, your dream might change the world for good! Mine did.

What tips can you offer to someone wanting to change up their skincare routine and support local?
Start slowly with one product at a time. I believe in keeping it simple. Cleanse , moisturise and sunblock are the three essentials you MUST use and then slowly add one new product at a time. What many people do not realise is that supporting local is cheaper, as well as better for the economy and the environment. The excellent quality of local skin care brands really means you don’t have to import expensive products anymore.
Tell us about your JUST BE KIND range of products?
My daughter and I developed this range for young skins. For boys, girls, gender non binary, questioning, transitioning, and everyone in between. Completely gender neutral, all inclusive and welcoming. The range includes a facial foaming cleanser, facial scrub & mask, an Everyskin Light Daily Moisturiser, Nightskin Enriched Night Time Moisturiser and a few other essentials.
Any exciting projects or business developments you have in the pipeline going forward?
Lots! LOL! My ADHD is a problem. Our Rose and Rue range is launching soon. It’s a marine collagen and CBD (THC-free) skincare and supplement range – as being beautiful needs to happen on the inside as well as outside. Also our Facemilk and Glycolic Toner will launch soon.
Three things you can’t live without?
My dog, coffee and sleep.
